What does it mean to move beyond the roles, rules and expectations of aging? For me, there is something about wisdom, reverence for life and playfulness that draws me towards a description beyond "old."

It is not yet evident that each of us will ripen into our highest qualities of being wise. Historical examples are often described as guru, master teacher, or hero. Somehow that doesn't fit the new templates forming for the future.

When we get beyond surviving life, this segment of the life cycle is the most fuzzy in modern times. It is no longer the old people who have the knowledge because knowledge is now available on the internet! There is a glimpse in examples of wise beings who are surfacing regularly now that give us hints of what is possible for this slice of our human process.

People are getting college degrees in their sixties because they are hungry for learning; starting community project in their 70s because they are passionate; touring the world in their 80s because they want to connect with other cultures. These are signals that a major shift is evolving for what can be the Age of Wisdom.
